This was my major project for the final year of my undergraduate degree. I have a serious slouching problem and wanted to create a simple way of correcting it. I thought “what if you could have clothing that would make you stand up straight?” I was inspired by the BioForm bra which comprised of a supportive plastic moulding which was stitched directly to the bra. My aim was to create a supportive element that could be stitched directly to clothing to correct posture. Though, rather than “correcting” posture, it was more of as a “reminder” –when you stood incorrectly it would dig into you, causing you to use your own muscles to stand up properly.
To make the plastic element I created wax moulds (created in SolidWorks) from which I then created silicone mould tools to cast the plastic posture elements. I also made a small range of clothes which the posture elements were stitched to which isn’t shown here.
